Purposely Looking Ugly to Spite Others is Foolish

I’m not the most girly girl there is. I don’t wear super girly things or know how to do the latest girly fashion. But I do like to dress cute, wear makeup, etc. A lot of women, many in the SF area, but everywhere too, like to dress in a less feminine manner than I even I do. Some wear men’s clothing even. Sometimes they do it in a cute way, a lot of times not. I’ve always noticed this, and kinda wondered why, but supposed that it’s because they like it. Maybe it’s comfy for them, or they feel good wearing those clothes. Those are good reasons for dressing however you want to dress. Recently, it’s come to my attention that some women wear unfeminine or unattractive clothing for … Read entire article »

The Jeans Saga

September Now Note: I wrote this at the end of July and forgot to post it… If you’re my facebook or twitter friend, you may probably have heard me complaining about the whole jeans thing LOL.  After I wrote this, I found a coupon for personally tailored jeans from an online company. Great idea! I haven’t done them yet but I will soon, and report back on the process!! Here’s what I wrote: June/July: Near the beginning of the year, my sugar addict roommate gave up sugar, and I did for a few months with him, 2 or 3 or something. After that, he kept at it, and without him there to bake sugary sweets each night, my small sweet tooth dwindled to nothing. I kept up my exercising as usual, … Read entire article »

Gel Nails!

Gel Nails!

My friend carina was extolling the virtues of gel nails for a bit, but since they’re more expensive, I didn’t see the need. Well, it came time for vacation, and suddenly I DID see the need. A normal manicure lasts me MAYBE a week, usually less. Gel nails are supposed to last 2-3 weeks. Perfect since I was leaving for vacation on a Thursday, but the last time I could get a manicure was the … Read entire article »

My Clarisonic Face Scrubber

My Clarisonic Face Scrubber

For a couple of years I’d had my eye on the clarisonic face scrubber. If not that long, then almost that long. I saw it on blogs and ads from sephora. I looked at it and imagined how clean my face would be if I could only have this piece of equipment…but it was expensive. It seemed like too much to waste on something to clean my face! Then, at the end of last year, … Read entire article »

Super Skinny Slim Me

I watched two BBC documentaries, Super Skinny Me and Super Slim Me on Youtube (you can go watch them too).  On one, they took two ‘regular’ looking sized reporter women and they five weeks to get down to a US size 0. They tried all of these crazy methods, starving themselves, colonics, overexercising… one of them reached the goal, and promptly went back to her normal life after, although she was irritable, sick and tired throughout. One of them developed an eating disorder and had to drop out. This really alarmed me because it was so dangerous!  I hope that the latter woman was really able to fix herself…she seemed kinda shaky afterward. In the second one, they had a cute slim but not skinny reporter who also had to reach … Read entire article »

I got an Herbal Body Wrap!

(Photo by Rick) this mummy is in SF like me! I swear I live my life by coupons sometimes…but they always lead me to new situations! I had bought a coupon for an herbal body wrap from Avra Organic Spa here in SF because I knew a couple other people who had done it, and it seemed like something new and interesting, very pamper-ish. It was expiring so I went last week. It’s way out in the tourist area, but inside it seemed peaceful. The one thing that was a bit weird was that it seemed a little to weight-focused. While I sat in the waiting room, which was called the tea room, they had free tea with cute little ceramic cups, and the tea was yummy, but it was called weight … Read entire article »

Random Top Knot Bun Memories – Banishing Bad Ghosts

It’s a rainy blah day out today, and since my hair was going to be frizzy anyway, I thought it would be a great day to try out a trending hair style right now – the top knot bun. My hair is just finally getting long enough for this again! But it’s funny how random things can bring up random memories to the past. My hairstyle brought me back to middle school. When I was a kid, after we moved to NH, I didn’t really have many (any) friends (the very opposite of how I was before NH). What I DID like though was reading. My town had a tiny library, with an even tinier young adults section, and my mother, for a while, tried to preview my books I … Read entire article »

Give me Colors!

Lately I’ve been looking back at photos of me that people have taken when I’m out and around places, and thinking that I look drab. My face looks fadey. It needs some brightening up! So, the other day, I started researching online to update my look. After all, it’s spring, and it’s time for spring cleaning and all of that.   &  Over the next few days, I read a ton of sites, but here and here were the most helpful. The most important thing that I learned was that, luckily, color is in this spring/summer for makeup. Just when I felt the need to brighten up, it’s in style! For the past few years, I’ve been a lipgloss kind of girl, rather than a lipstick one, but bright pink and … Read entire article »

How Often do you Cut your Hair?

Going out the night of my haircut On Saturday I finally got my hair cut after not cutting it since August. I’ve been letting it grow, so I have been trying to not cut it too much, but I do have really thick hair, and a lot of it, so it gets weighed down. As soon as she cut it and layered it a bit, I felt so much better!! But a good hair cut in san francisco is expensive. I thought about it, and people with really short hair, especially guys, have to get their hair cut about once a month or so, and that adds up really quickly. People with short hair can go longer, so even though the price tag might seem higher, it’s actually lower, averaged … Read entire article »

The New Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Plum – How does it measure up?

Lips are always getting dry..we use them a lot, and they’re sitting there, exposed on our faces, so it’s important to protect them. My friend, who has big lips, always uses Fresh’s Sugar lip treatment. i would borrow it from him, and one day, when i decided to start using Fresh products, i bought some myself. He has the original, which is clear.  The girl who works there introduced me to their Rose tinted version, and that’s what i began using. Until a few weeks ago…i learned that Fresh had come out with a brand new color, plum tinted, just in time for the fall, and i decided to try it out, so i bought some. but how does it measure up?? i mean, it’s all over online, but is … Read entire article »
