How Often do you Cut your Hair?
Going out the night of my haircut On Saturday I finally got my hair cut after not cutting it since August. I’ve been letting it grow, so I have been trying to not cut it too much, but I do have really thick hair, and a lot of it, so it gets weighed down. As soon as she cut it and layered it a bit, I felt so much better!! But a good hair cut in san francisco is expensive. I thought about it, and people with really short hair, especially guys, have to get their hair cut about once a month or so, and that adds up really quickly. People with short hair can go longer, so even though the price tag might seem higher, it’s actually lower, averaged … Read entire article »

The New Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Plum – How does it measure up?
Lips are always getting dry..we use them a lot, and they’re sitting there, exposed on our faces, so it’s important to protect them. My friend, who has big lips, always uses Fresh’s Sugar lip treatment. i would borrow it from him, and one day, when i decided to start using Fresh products, i bought some myself. He has the original, which is clear. The girl who works there introduced me to their Rose tinted version, and that’s what i began using. Until a few weeks ago…i learned that Fresh had come out with a brand new color, plum tinted, just in time for the fall, and i decided to try it out, so i bought some. but how does it measure up?? i mean, it’s all over online, but is … Read entire article »

My first real facial (no, not that kind! lol)
Until this past Monday, I’d never had a facial in my whole life. I’d played around with masks and stuff.. I’d even gotten a sample fake facial at a store, where you try out their products. But never an actual, real facial. Rewind back to a year ago, when I got one of those million coupon offers in my email, and I was feeling down and thought well hmm, I should get a facial! And I bought one (half off!). Then I forgot about it. Realizing my coupon was going to expire, I quickly emailed and scheduled an appointment. Unfortunately, there were no appointments not during work, so I took off early at nearly 3pm and went over to Aesthetique Skin Care. Inside, it looked like a doctor’s office. I … Read entire article »

The search for the elusive bikini that actually fits!
This week I’ve kind of had writer’s block.. My mind feels blank inside. There are things I want to write about, but I cant at the moment, and that kinda squashed the whole process for any other topics. But today I thought of something that is pertient. Buying a bathing suit. Waay back in January or february, I started looking for a bikini. I had several trips to warm places planned, and my bathing suits were a few years old. So I looked. And failed. And fortunately, when I went to San diego, it was too cold for a bathing suit. Then I came home and once again tried, and failed. And so I wore my old suit to palm springs. Ok but Now I will find a suit..but nope. … Read entire article »

Please, please, please shave!
This morning on the bus, a woman came on with a kind of strange looking outfit. That is not so strange in and of itself..it’s san francisco. People ALWAYS dress weirdly here. So I was looking at her, wondering hmm is that strange outfit cute in anyway or just strange… you know, the usual…when I looked down and saw hair on her legs. And instantly went BLECH! (well, inside my head). What is it about hairy women that turns me (and a great majority of other people) off? If that was a guy with hairy legs, I’d be oh whatever..i see those all the time and it’s normal to me. A guy can have hairy arms, hairy chest, stubble on his face, and still look good. But if any of … Read entire article »

Check out Roya’s Reve by Roya and Style Celebration!
Here is a blog I’ve been meaning to put up for a while… My friend Roya http://twitter.com/royasfstyle sent me a press release about her new company she’s started, Reve by Roya, and I wanted to put it up for her. Roya is smart, and creative, so if you’re in the market for some jewelry, check out her shop. If you’re short on money right now, just check out her blog, Style Celebration, which is a must for anyone trying to learn about style, fashion and its icons. I go there when I want to be educated. To me, SF is not a very stylish place, but Roya brings a little of that into our lives! (Here are a couple of old pics of me and Roya, because I haven’t uploaded … Read entire article »

Putting a little effort
A lot of times I tend to feel depressed, and then I start wondering what is the point of trying to look nice and stuff each day? That’s what I was thinking this past weekend. Who cares? Who cares if I’m seen out in public with no shower and no proper makeup? I guess no one really. But then I have a day like yesterday when I rethink my who-cares-edness. First, I was walking to the gym, and outside the gym there was a poster for a local SF pride party on a telephone pole or tree or something. It was all yay lesbians yay pride music dancing blah. But at the top was “Justin Bieber lookalike contest!” It was pretty obvious from this flyer that you were supposed to … Read entire article »

Getting Girly for Dummies: Intro & the Mani/Pedi Eyebrow Wax
If you’re a long time reader of my blog, you might remember how over the past couple of years, i’ve made it a goal to learn how to be more girly. i never learned growing up. i didnt really have friends, and my mother and sister (and father and brother) are all even less girly than me, outwardly. Inwardly, i’m really not very girly at all, but i wanted to look my best, and to me, looking somewhat but not overboard girly is my best. So i researched. Mostly online, trial and error, a lot of observation… i’m still working on it. the other day, my twitter/blog friend mary announced her operation sexification. She too, never really learned how to be girly. and then other women commented, and said they … Read entire article »

My new Chi Flatiron/Straightener
Nobody ever taught me how to be a girl. All I’ve learned so far has been through my own trial and error, or internet research. It always seemed like other girls inately know this stuff, or learn it from their other female friends. One thing I’ve always looked at, and wondered at, is other girl’s hair. So many women have such nice looking hair. Especially if you see a gaggle of girls all done up to go out somehwere, or maybe if you see them on tv, or looking all put together at some professional thing, there are these women with smooth, coifed looking hair. For the life of me, I was never able to do that. My hair always felt like it was raggedy and flyaway. All broken ends … Read entire article »

wake up, merri! life doesn’t pause, it’s all the time!
I’m constantly having to remind myself that real life is happening all the time, not just when something special/different/exciting/fun/dramatic happens. I tend to forget that the in between time is life too. I get lazy.. I’ve been getting very lazy.. Tuesday I went to work and the gym and was feeling very blah and I went to zumba, and felt really good. All that moving around, and after a break from exercise classes the week before. I was walking home, and roomie called me to come shopping and dinner with him and his friend.. I said well I don’t look so great.. I was just at work and gym and he said that’s fine. I got there and umm… well, I wasn’t lying. I actually had to stand in front … Read entire article »
