Becoming Sometimes Vegetarians?

I’ve been thinking about vegetarianism for quite some time. A couple years. I’ve thought maybe by the time I get old and die, I’ll manage to become a vegetarian. I’ve done a lot of research. I know that it’s healthy to be one (provided, obviously, that you don’t only eat junk food), that people don’t need to eat meat for protein and such. I know it’s better for the environment.  I know that the animals and people who are involved with factory farming and slaughterhouses get severely mistreated. At the same time, I don’t believe that eating meat and animal products is wrong. Although not necessary, animal and dairy products can be healthy parts of a healthy diet. My main reason for objecting is the way the animals are treated. … Read entire article »

I’m still here!! And, what to do when you have a big appetite..

I feel awful that I’ve been missing posts on here for the past week and a half or maybe two weeks. I’m still here!! What happened? A couple of things… First, I was feeling really mopey about the holidays. I get that holiday sadness for some reason every year. I think it’s kinda writer’s blocking me. I’m starting to come out of it a bit, surprisingly… Second, work has been pretty insane. It tires me right out, and then I don’t have the brains left to write anything else! My brain is mummified by the time I get home from work and the gym each day. But I don’t want to lose you readers, make you not even think to check back and see if I’ve written anything… I’m still … Read entire article »

Thanksgiving Roundup

Here is a post celebrating thanksgivings past, plus a few recipes for those still looking for something to put on their tables this Thursday. I had my very first SF Thanksgiving at my first place back in 2006…we ate on the floor. By the next year, 2007, i had it at my best friend’s place, on the year we weren’t roommates. We’d graduated to a fold out table and paper plates. By 2008, I’d moved two more places, and we had it at my house, but I didn’t get to cook anything. I did get to eat it and although i didn’t blog, i do have a couple photos of me eating.  2009 was hectic but I was in another new place. This time, we opted for buying thanksgiving in … Read entire article »

Vegan Creamy Potato Leek Soup and Roasted Garlic on Sourdough!

Vegan Creamy Potato Leek Soup and Roasted Garlic on Sourdough!

Leeks came in our CSA shipment and Roomie and i had no idea what they really were… i did some online research and it seemed like potato leek soup was one of the main things people make with them. i’m not a soup person, and i don’t usually eat potatoes very often at all (usually just as fries!), but eventually i figured why not give it a shot. I found a recipe on a site … Read entire article »

Banana Sour Cream Pancakes Recipe

Banana Sour Cream Pancakes Recipe

One day, roomie and I were going to try a recipe, so he bought sour cream for it, and then it turned out we couldn’t do the recipe at all. But now we had sour cream. What to do with that?? We (especially him) are often hungry after dinner and were thinking of dessert…hmm…pancakes? Wait, does sour cream go in pancakes? I said it does, he wasn’t so sure. A quick google confirmed it and … Read entire article »

Using my Oranges: Honey-Orange Chicken with Sesame Sauce

Using my Oranges: Honey-Orange Chicken with Sesame Sauce

I mentioned before, we have started getting fruits and veggies from a local CSA.  We started at every four weeks but bumped it up to every 3. Our third shipment came in with oranges in it. I was kind of surprised. One, because being a native new Englander, I never think of oranges as something that would come in a local farm package…even though I’ve lived in SF now for five years, some things still … Read entire article »

Goat Cheese Stuffed Roasted Figs drizzled with Honey

Goat Cheese Stuffed Roasted Figs drizzled with Honey

I just started getting fruits and veggies from a CSA, Farm Fresh to You. My second CSA came up with a box of figs. As a kid i loved Fig Newtons (though i won’t eat them now, they have HFCS!!) and i’ve had them only a few times since. they’re always expensive looking at the store. When they came, i had a whole tube of goat cheese in the fridge to go in egg sandwiches. … Read entire article »

Bananas for Dinner!

Bananas for Dinner!

Recently, I’d been thinking about how bananas would taste good in dinner.  Roomie was out of state djing so i thought i’d try a new vegetarian dinner. Black-eyed Peas and Tomatoes with Sauteed Bananas! YAH! Apparently this is inspired by the traditional Ghana dish called Red-Red, which is served with plantains. This whole foods recipe comes out with a slight tang of spiciness and the tomato mixes with the cooked banana taste in a sweet … Read entire article »
