My First Kiss Went A Little Like This…what is normal?
My body pump class recently changed soundtracks, and one of the new songs is My First Kiss. Music and moving around always gets me thinking (well, I’m always thinking anyway), and I got to thinking about how since most of my life I’ve always been such an outsider, I never really experience the usual ‘normal’ things in life. It always seems like, on tv, movies, books, and even other people in real life, everyone always has these cutsey first kiss childhood sweetheart kind of things. Followed later by teenaged rights of passage type stories where they lose their virginity, usually again with someone they care about (or the town slut lol). I started out pretty normal…I had my first short term crush in first grade. I dreamed this boy … Read entire article »

My New England Vacation: RI and the rest of MA
Well, i’d better get going and write about my trip before more stuff happens to write about and i get even more behind! As you probably deduced from my boston blog, i did not stay in boston when i went on vacation. instead, i stayed with my friend jay over in fall river, ma. it’s an old warehouse city about 45min to an hr away from boston, and about 20 min away from providence RI. no public transportation or anything, so my friend tristan (who came on the vacation with me) and i had to depend on jay to drive us places. which i did feel bad about. i thought san diego wasnt a walking city, well it’s walk heaven compared to fall river. anyway. we got into providence airport … Read entire article »

i have a big problem
I have a big problem… with guys, I can almost always tell if they’re gay or straight. Even if they are gay but not really gayish acting, I can usually tell. Once in a while I’ll think a gay acting straight guy is gay (there are more and more and more of those, and more and more straight acting gays) but usually I think I get it right. But when it comes to girls, I pretty much fail. Here in sf, there are a bazillion girls that you can definitely tell are lesbians. They are so gay that your blind gramma can tell. So obviously, I don’t need help with that. Unfortunately, those girls are not my type. As friends, sure. But even the more femme of those girls are … Read entire article »

Sorry i havent been writing a lot…a cheesy post
You will notice we haven’t been having any blogs lately… I have lots to write, but its just stuck inside. My mind is always too tired to put it into words… but I don’t want you to lose interest in my blog, so I should put up SOMETHING. So here is something really CHEESY for you. Everyone and their great aunt knows this song by now, but I think its just great that there is a song directed at friendship, because friendship is so important to me. Obviously everyone says they like their friends and all that, but to me a friendship is a commitment and I take it seriously, even if the path isn’t the easiest and when things are for peoples own good. I don’t keep … Read entire article »

Do genes make friends?
There was a recent study, using twin males, that shows genes influence who you are friends with. Not because you look at a person and say hey they look like they have great genes! Nope, genes predispose you to the TYPE of person you’re going to be friends with. Of course, this is only for males, but they seem to believe it would be true for females too. I hang out with more guys, so it must be true for me if it’s true for them. it’s always made sense that if you look at a person’s friends, you can tell a lot about them. this is a good reason to introduce your date to your friends, and vice versa. If you don’t like your date’s friends or … Read entire article »

instructions for knowing merri
To all people who know me, are friends with me, want to know me, be friends with me, or deal with me in any way…. The number one important thing to remember is to always be upfront and honest with me. Pretend you have an issue with me, or something I did. This issue could be something that actually happened, or something you think happened. It could be something totally innate to my being. What should you do: 1) never do or say anything about it, just think about it and let it fester 2) tell other people how annoyed this thing is, tell them how much it bothers you 3) talk to me.I should think that the pretty obvious, blatant answer would be number THREE. A … Read entire article »

The Dating Game Part 3
Here is part 3, written at the beginning of December. I like this guy as a person and was really touched at how nice he is and how much he cared about me… But at the same time i knew i wouldnt be good for him and couldnt care about him that way back… I’ve been dating the last guy that I had talked with from the ad. He is really great. He’s got a good job, likes my music (surprisingly, for a straight guy!), dresses well but not too well, is nice and short, takes me out to dinner at really nice, yummy places, is a complete and utter gentleman, is fun to be around, is caring, and really nice to strangers, going above the call … Read entire article »

the dating game part 2
I originally wrote this in November… posted now… This has not been going so well… I ended up emailing the first guy after he emailed me the next day, and telling him we don’t click. Then the next 2 guys the dates got postponed… I finally went on one the day before yesterday. Another really nice guy who seems very cool and I liked talking to him online. But the day of the date, when he was going to take me to a nice dinner, I panicked. Did I feel like I wanted to date him? No. I was just having fun chatting with him like I would any of my friends. I liked him enough that I couldn’t let him buy me dinner, and … Read entire article »
