The show is sold out tonight, and most nights,so I’m excited!! There’s still a few tickets left on some performances, so you should go buy one. I’ll be posting a review later. In the meantime, head over to www.twitter.com/merrijane at 7pm PST to see what i say, or www.twitter.com/sfplayhouse to see what everyone says. Speaking of tweeting plays, a few weeks ago, I got interviewed about this, and was quoted in a news article. Follow the link to read it (I’m near the end). … Read entire article »

Reborning Play

Pl The week before last I live tweeted the play Reborning at SF Playhouse. For those that haven’t been following along, that means that the theatre asks some people to come in one performance each play and sit in the backrow and live blog our play watching experience. Love it!! Antonio came with me, though not to tweet. We both ended up enjoying the play! This was my second favorite production of theirs, second only to Wirehead. When I had read this play was about a dollmaker, I was thinking doll as in what I played with as a child. When I arrived, I saw that the lobby had photographs and information about Reborn dolls, which I’d seen a documentary about a while back. There are a couple of documentaries … Read entire article »

Join Me for Another Live Tweet on the 19th – Reborning

It’s that time again, the time when I get to live tweet a play! Yes, catch me this Thursday May 19th as I live tweet SF Playhouse’s production of Reborning. This will be at 8pm PST, and you can follow me at www.twitter.com/merrijane or see what the other tweeters are saying as well, at www.twitter.com/SFPlayhouse. Here’s the synopsis: This dark comedy takes an unsettling look at work, latex, and the power of creation. A young artist who crafts custom made dolls begins to suspect that a demanding client may be the mother who abandoned her at birth. As she tries to unravel the mystery, she discovers the path to her own “Reborning.” Don’t forget, you can join in, discuss, question, whatever. Tweet you then! … Read entire article »

Kitchen Series: A New Kind of Play, New Kind of Getting Cultured

After a lot of going out (blog on THAT to follow soon) I needed some culture in my life, so I went with my friends Hoi and Antonio to see Thornton Wilder’s play The Skin of our Teeth at the Kitchen Series. The Kitchen Series is put on by Precarious Theatre at Brava Theatre in the Mission. This is their second season, to sold out performances. Each play is a one night only performance – bare bones, and not like other plays I’ve been to in the past. We arrived at the theatre, and were served soup, sandwiches, and wine. On a side note – I ate some of the YUMMIEST bread on my hummus sandwich! It was studded all over, both sides with large sunflower seeds! Yum! I went back to … Read entire article »

Wirehead Play

Last Thursday, I live tweeted SF Playhouse’s Wirehead.  This was the regional premiere. This time, I brought my friend Antonio with me, and he said he wouldn’t be able to tweet through the play like I did. But as usual, I loved tweeting while I watched! This play is in the near future, and there is a new thing out that turns your brain into a computer.  Of course, only the really rich people can afford to do this, and it raised tons of questions about how this will affect society. Or even evolution – what about mind control? But there were good things too, such as curing tons of diseases.  I loved how while two couples, friends, struggled with this problem, the scenes were connected by a radio show … Read entire article »

Join Me as I Live Tweet the Play Wirehead

It’s time for me to do another live tweet of a play. Yep, I’ll be a Playhouse Plugger for SF Playhouse this Thursday, March 31st at 8pm PST.  I’ll be seeing the Regional Premiere of Wirehead.  The synopsis, from the website, sounds pretty intriguing. Imagine that tomorrow anyone with the money could get a brain implant that automatically makes them a genius.  What if you couldn’t afford it and your hated coworker could? The “wireheads”  in this play find themselves at odds with the rest of their office as hilarity, mystery, and tragedy ensue, and we try to answer the question: “Just because something can be done, should it be done?” So don’t forget to tune in on my twitter: @merrijane … Read entire article »

Harper Regan Play

Thursday night I went to see the West Coast premiere of the play Harper Regan at SF Playhouse, and I got to Live Tweet it! The last time I did this was for Coraline a couple months ago, and I loved it, but I had a bit of an annoyance with my cell phone batteries draining from tweeting too much. This time, I thought, I’ll bring my LAPTOP! I was already an old pro at this Playhouse Plugger thing, so this time, I didn’t bother wondering what to wear, I just wore regular clothes. Once again, I did not prepare enough finding a restaurant to eat dinner at, and ended up at the same boring one I’d been to last time, across the street. Once again, the food was … Read entire article »

Coraline

Playbill and Ticket I’d already told you that I got asked to be a Playhouse Plugger and live tweet plays, starting with Coraline. Maybe you were wondering how it went? It was great. The Thursday before last, I was a little nervous all day. Was I dressed up enough? Would I make it in time? Would my phone die part way through the play? (phones these days don’t have a ton of battery life..). When i left work, there was not enough time to go home first, so i decided to do what i always feel kinda loserish doing, eat dinner by myself. i ate right across the street, because i was worried about being late. actually i was a half hour early. i am a naturally late person, so when … Read entire article »

Jekyll & Hyde the Musical

Years and years ago, in college, my parents took us to see Jekyll and Hyde, the musical, in Boston at the beautiful Wang Theatre. Recently, I saw that this was going to be playing here in SF, and I remembered how much I loved the music, so I decided to see it. I have trouble watching plays and movies, since I have a hard time sitting there in those seats and I tend to doze. Dozing off is a waste of money in a movie, but its also rude to the actors in a live play. I decided I’d do it anyway. Friday, after a nice dinner, A and I went to the ft. mason center to see the play, put on by the Royal Underground Theatre Company. It was … Read entire article »
